Clomid Challenge Test

Clomiphene Citrate Challenge Test (CCCT)

Ovarian Function Study

The clomiphene challenge test is used to assess the ability of the ovaries to respond to hormone signals. This helps with counseling concerning options for future treatment. There is some variability in how different programs request a CCCT. Below is a general guideline of the most common approach.

PATIENT SCHEDULE

Day 1: Onset menses

Day 3: Blood draw

  • Serum Estradiol (E2)
  • Serum FSH

Day 5-9: Clomid 100mg DAILY (two 50 mg tablets)

Day 10: Blood draw

  • Serum FSH
  • +/- Serum Estradiol (E2)
  • +/- Serum LH

Expected Values

CD (cycle day) 3

E2 value 65-70

FSH value below 10

CD (cycle day) 10 or 11

LH value below 10

FSH value below 10

Women with elevated FSH levels may demonstrate diminished ovarian reserve.
